The Magic Sailing Team has entered the fiercely
competitive arena of the UFO
class, taking part in the Winter
and Primevele Championships,
disputed at Chioggia and Caorle (Italy) respectively
in the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Once again, it
was a rather positive experience, revealing
to them the high level of technical preparation
required for this most organized class.
Uniflair, the boat chartered by the Magic Sailing
Team, ended the Winter Championship with an
excellent overall
third place, tying points with
second place, Tonoli’s Amante. It was
the chance the Team needed to test its organizational
and technical operation further - commented
skipper Marco Guerra. Being a one-design, the
boat managed to bring to light the team spirit
and, from a technical point of view, proved
pretty interesting: with light winds, it is
rather fast and therefore it is important to
know how to coordinate shifting of weight to
find the perfect trim.
The UFO
experience culminated in the night regatta,
which was run the evening before the Barcolana
2002 event with the Port
of Trieste Trophy win. A noteworthy
crew, captained by helmsman Bressani, won the
evocative floodlit regatta, which is held off
the coast of Trieste to the sound of music and
cheers from the thousands of spectators.
THE UFO’S HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL...
The idea conceived in the Summer of ’94
was quickly given tangible form and the UFO
today has already aroused much enthusiasm and
proved very popular amongst sailors on an international
level. Here are the eight axioms that have become
its distinguishing features:
One-design class
- High technology
- High performance
- Functional during
racing - Comfortable
during navigation - Trailerability
- Limited running
costs -
Durability
It offers amazing performance: on the wind,
it flies at a speed of 6 knots and downwind,
it glides like an Olympic class 470 boat! Built
with epoxy resins and vacuum laminated, like
all the best prototypes, the UFO ONE-DESIGN
is simple to rig, can be trailered and is a
monotype, as attested by the actual boatbuilders,
